Here planar velocity data and selected velocity vector maps are available for viewing and/or download. Data are available for a zero-pressure gradient flat plate turbulent boundary layer at two Reynolds numbers: Req = 1015 and 7705. 2-dimensional velocity vectors are obtained in the streamwise/wall-normal plane, with field of view approximately 3d in x and over d in y. Relevant flow parameters are available for viewing or download in pdf format below. Approximately 50 realizations are taken at each Reynolds number.
Analysis and interpretation of the data is presented in the following references. These also provide further details of the flow facility, image acquisition, and interrogation procedure. The labels (in bold) attached to each reference are used below to identify images which are presented as figures in the papers.
View or download (pdf format) a table of relevant flow parameters here.
Images
For several realizations of particular interest at each Reynolds number velocity vector fields are available for viewing as gif images. Galilean decomposition is used in visualizing the velocity fields as discussed in AMT00; each field is plotted using 2 convection velocities (Uc). Some velocities are selected to reveal outer-region structures, and others near-wall structures, in addition to log-layer structures. Each image is plotted with two different magnifications. One is chosen so the viewed image will approximately fit on a single screen or page (Page view). The other is chosen to create an image roughly twice as large, so the viewer may scan the details of the flow more carefully (Wide view). The realizations are selected to provide examples of a variety of structures observed in the data, including the vortex packets/ramp-like structures discussed in the above references, although common elements appear in each realization (hairpin vortex signatures, packets). It is also interesting to observe the range of scales within each realization, and the viewer will find examples of the hierarchical character of the structure. The page view images may also be downloaded in postscript format for printing.

Data
The data are provided in a simple four-column ascii format. Each row of the data represents one velocity vector. The first two columns correspond to streamwise position x and wall-normal position y respectively, in physical units (mm). The third and fourth columns correspond to streamwise and wall-normal velocity u and v respectively, again in physical units (m/s). The units may be made dimensionless using the flow parameters file available above. The data files also include a one-line header so they can be immediately read into Tecplot. A few images interrogated poorly and were not included in the dataset.Individual high Reynolds number realizations may be downloaded from the table below, or the entire dataset may be downloaded in a zipped package here.
